Lisa Gade reviews the Apple Pencil, a digital pen for the iPad Pro. The $99 pencil is much more accurate than a capacitive stylus and it offers similar performance to N-Trig pens found on the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book as well as Wacom digitizers and pens used in some tablet PCs and convertibles like the Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga 12.

We test it for note taking with Evernote and Microsoft OneNote and for drawing and painting with Procreate and Apple Notes. We also compare it with the Surface Pro 4 pen and with a Wacom-equipped Windows tablet.

Though we weren't as impressed with the iPad Pro itself given its price vs. capabilities, the Pencil is well executed and shows promise. We hope future iPad Air models will support the Pencil.
