After testing out a laptop and it's onboard audio for the first time I was in shock... From my testing (though I don't know how to test the console audio just yet), the portable Creative G3 made an easy fix however. This unit also offers everything you want from a budget solution; solid numbers, line in, optical in, mute switch, mic and output volume, and a new feature too, mix volume. This feature enables you to mix the end points together. Also coupled with what the software suite brings for $60, it would really be a good decision if you were using cheap laptop onboard audio.
