If you are having seeing lots of giant ERRORs upon joining a server in CS:S or CS1.6, make sure to ENABLE all custom download files in the settings.

To open the developer console, go to the game's settings and tick the 'enable developer console' option. Then, go to the keyboard settings and map a key for the console (I for instance use P to open the console).

Many servers will have an auto-kick feature built-in that will kick AFK'ers and spectators when a player wants to join the server. Watch the second part of Step 2 to understand how to do this (through the console).
