Intel's production process nodes have been renamed. Through the power of a press release, what was once 10nm is now 7nm. To be fair to Intel, their 10nm process is competitive with Samsung and TSMC's 7nm processes, the two major chipmakers, and the renaming realigns each company's nodes to be nearly similar. Apart from the rebranding, Intel also revealed details about their next CPU technology, including EMIB in the planned Meteor Lake CPUs and two new Foveros stacked / 3D chip layouts. Intel's strategy includes a bold 18 angstrom (or 1.8nm) node that they hope to have ready by 2026. That sounds a little quick to me, but we all need objectives, right?
