The Intel Xeon is an interesting option for gamers and people with workstation productivity in mind. It certainly is able to get decent speeds (I managed to get mine up to 3.8ghz on all cores) and also has a slightly better fan on the stock cooler, so you won't need to go out and spend extra money to get ample fine performance from this CPU, couple this with the fact that it can work on a B85 chipset and you have a good value for money proposition on your hands.
The Xeon is also quite a bit cheaper than the 4790 or 4790k and should be compared along side the 4690k imo, where it will most likely still remain slightly cheaper after you factor in A/M fan and z97 board costs for the 4690k counterpart. The Xeon does edge out the 4 core in productivity however it does lose in those single threaded CPU intensive games, like Arma 3 for example. However at 3.8ghz this thing certainly uses less power than the 4690k at 4.6ghz.

***I also forgot to add that 4.6ghz is NOT guaranteed at all on a 4670k/4690k, so that is something to keep in mind. 3.8ghz on this xeon will be however.***
