PCMag Live for Friday, April 11, 2014 is hosted by Dan Costa and Sascha.
In our Headline News segment, we celebrate the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is now on sale in 125 countries (US carriers for $199.99 except T-Mobile, where it's $27.50 per month). In addition to the S5, Samsung also has the Gear Fit for sale at $199, the Gear 2 Neo which goes for $199 and the Gear 2 for $299. And watch the video to learn which retailer has the Galaxy S5 on sale for discount of $164.99. Our second story is something very dear to Dan's heart, Amazon announced that it is acquiring Comixology. Dan, a huge comics nerd, has a costly monthly addiction to Comixology and wonders what's in store for his favorite app. Lastly, Google announced that for one day only, Google Glass will go on sale to the public. Sascha can barely hide his disdain for the controversial wearable.
Today's Reader Question comes from David via email. David asks "My acupuncturist wife needs a new computer. She's thinking of the Dell 15 7000 series. Dell has a deal if you spend over $600 - which she would - you can buy a Dell venue tablet - 7, 8 or 8 pro for an extra $140, $150, $200. Worth it? Or wait and buy, say, a Nexus 7 or 10 separately?"
The One Cool Thing from the PCMag Labs today is a treasure that's very popular this time of year: the Ativa Professional Plus HD Pro 2000 shredder. This 20 sheet cross cut shredder has won a coveted PCMag Editor's Choice Award and can shred continuously for up to two hours without needing time to cool off. Sascha then proceeds to shred anything that isn't bolted down. We're surprised he didn't make a go for Dan's Google Glass.
