PCMag Live for Tuesday, April 16, 2014 is hosted by Alex Colon and Dan Costa.
In our Headline News segment, The CTIA has revised its position and will now support cellphone kill switches. This is a major reversal from a few weeks ago when the CTIA said such a move would be impractical and leave phones open to hackers. The top four carriers made more than $7.8 billion in insurance premiums last year. So the big question here is how hard this will hit the bottom line of these carriers? Apple, Samsung, AT&T and Verizon have all agreed to offer the service by summer 2015. In other news, Toshiba brings to market the first 4K laptop, the Satellite P55t. The highlight of this laptop is the 15.6-inch UHD display. That means 4x the pixels of a 1080p HDTV. Lastly, the New York Post is reporting that AirBnB rentals are being used as pop up brothels. Of course they are.
Today's Reader Question is from Fazal, who asks "If I labeled an email as a newsletter, then how can I prevent it from also showing up in my Inbox?" The fix isn't an obvious one, but it is simple enough. Watch the show to find out how.
The One Cool Thing from the PCMag Labs today is the Scooba from iRobot. This is the hardwood-floor cleaning cousin of the legendary Roomba. But the Scooba isn't as much of a vacuum as it is a robot floor mop. Alex would like to point out that the filth we show on it's underbelly is not from his home, but from the PCMag Labs. Heh. You'd think we'd have a robot to mop the Labs floors by now?
