In our Headline News segment, Microsoft formally absorbs Nokia's device business. Microsoft now owns the handset business and Old-Nokia retains the Nokia brand name, patents, mapping businesses; may reintroduce phones in the future. This slow-mo merger has basically been happening since Feb 2011. Will we finally see the long-rumored Surface phone now?

Also in the news, Vic Gundotra, creator of Google+ leaves Google after 8 years. We're not sure if he left on his own accord, but this could only mean change is coming to the challenged social network. TechCrunch says the Google Hangouts and Photos teams are moving to the Android team of course Google denies. And what about this talk that G+ will morph into a platform?

Lastly, Russian Emperor, Vladimir Putin is hell-bent on developing his own, Russian Internet. It's no surprise that the shirtless bear-wrestler thinks the Internet is an ongoing CIA project, and like his Chinese comrades, seeks to control what is on and offline in his country. Um, in Russia does the Internet surf you? Apologies to any Russian Americans that just rolled their eyes.
