I decided to run a whole new suite of benchmarks, so let me know what you guys think, however for now we will be comparing the two hottest cards (imo) of 2014 the R9-290 and the GTX 970 and putting them head to head. However the R9-290s recent price drop to $300 RRP has certainly raised heads and especially with the demand for GTX 970s pushing their said prices up, it goes without saying that the R9-290 will make for a great alternative if you can't get your hands on a GTX 970, though with the R9-290 MAKE SURE YOU GET A GOOD VENDOR CARD, i.e. the OEM stock cooler is absolute junk and will give you a nightmare.

However ultimate I can recommend both these cards, though I do prefer the GTX 970 as it is faster and it does run cooler and use less power while doing all the above (albeit it costs more). You also get access to shadow play which I forgot to mention which I actually do use and recommend to anyone wanting to record game play. AMD on the other hand does get access to Mantle, so if you play titles that utilize mantle then you might want to get an AMD card.

So hopefully this answers the question of - which is the best GPU of 2014?
