With the R9-390 and GTX 970 costing around $300, everyone wants to know which one should I get, or does one perform better than the other?
Well with me I have two retail samples (AMD MSI R9-390 and NVidia Gigabyte G1 GTX 970) and I put them head to head at 1440p on a variety of games (all proprietary gameworks features were turned off) to see which is the price performance king.
Max stable overclocks I was able to obtain on both (with no artefacting) were; 1550mhz on the GTX 970 and 1140mhz on the R9-390 - both from which I hear are quite decent overclocks. The temperatures and noise were also a non-issue with both cards, meaning I can recommend both these retail samples I used here today.
One thing to keep in mind also is that you will want to have a decent power supply with either of these cards (and not just a high watt figure, a quality delivery line is preferred, especially if you want to overclock).
