Nvidia dropped the release dates and the specs of the GTX 1080 today with the 1080 coming in at $599 and being released on May 27th. The GTX 1070 however didn't get a full spec reveal though it will be coming in at $379 and will be released on June 10th. They will be sport a frame buffer of 8GB, though the 1080 will have GDDR5x and the 1070 will have standard GDDR5.
It is no doubt that this architecture is being driven by the HUGE shift down to 16nm which will allow these cards to go up to 2.1ghz on air. NVidia are also releasing the 'founder's edition' which is reportedly a binned card and will also feature some additional cosmetics and possible accessories.
For me personally though the 1070 will be the card to get, just like the 970 was. And I wouldn't quite count AMD out of the race just yet, with their own Polaris Architecture coming with 14nm FinFet and since the 1080 is getting 25% more cuda cores than the 980 and is clocked a HUGE amount higher (40%+), we can see that Pascal itself at the core isn't changing a whole lot.
Anyway 2016 - bring it on!
