ZTE Nubia's Red Magic 6R gets unboxed, with a hands-on assessment of gaming performance and features, as well as a comparison of specs with the original Red Magic 6. This is one of the most affordable dedicated gamer smartphones in 2021, but is it the greatest deal?
I put the brute through its paces with some Genshin Impact, and on high detail settings, the phone handled the game admirably - at least for a while. Unfortunately, I noticed a lot of throttling because the cooling system couldn't maintain the Snapdragon 888 running at maximum speed. Nonetheless, Game Space offers a slew of useful features, and PubG, CoD Mobile, and other titles run smoothly.
The Nubia Red Magic 6R (the 'Racing' model) has a lower battery than the original smartphone, but the 144Hz display is nearly as impressive (despite the selfie orifice). Unfortunately, you don't have dual speakers or a headphone jack.
