I have been asked for months now to test out the GTX 780 and see if NVidia has been gimping the card through driver updates, though after benchmarking the card and cross-referencing it with past benchmarks it was simply a matter of NVidia making Kepler obsolete and not really delivering any real performance gains to the GTX 780 in driver updates over time, as opposed to Maxwell which has received some TLC since it's release.
I also heard about a AMD HD7970 performing the same as a 780, and since I had one on hand I decided to test that out as well. And it was roughly 20% slower than the 780, but interesting to see that it is catching up!

Games were all tested with apples to apples single player benchmarks on a 6600k @ 4.6ghz.
All Cards were overclocked on air.

GTX 780 Core Clock @ 1187 MHZ
HD7970 @ 1204 MHZ
GTX 970 @ 1549MHZ
