John Wackman describes himself the "coordinator, communicator and cheerleader" for Repair Cafes in the Hudson Valley of New York--and for the repair movement globally. His first career was in television, and he recognized an overlap with the skill sets needed to start a community repair initiative: bringing together people with diverse backgrounds to work on a common vision. An amateur woodworker since he was a kid, John brings his tools to as many Repair Cafes as he can, and he's become a true believer that "repairing in community is powerful." He is the author, with Elizabeth Knight, of Repair Revolution: How Fixers Are Transforming Our Throwaway Culture.
