Lisa Gade reviews the budget-priced Ugee UG-2150 Pen Display, a 21.5” IPS full HD display with a UC Logic pen digitizer that’s an affordable alternative to big screen Wacom Cintiqs.

** Update: we replaced the factory display cable, and the monitor now has very good contrast of 1100:1. Defective cable, not the monitor's fault!

This is an external monitor with built in tilt stand that works as a companion to a Windows or Mac OS X computer via USB and display connection (HDMI, VGA or DVI). The included pen has 2,048 levels of pressure sensitivity. It’s a gloss display and it doesn’t support touch. The pen display works well with a variety of art and photo editing programs including Adobe Photoshop CC, Autodesk Sketchbook, Clip Studio Paint and Corel Painter 2017.

The UG-2150 sells on Amazon for $609, but GearBest (they supplied our review unit) sells it for considerably less— $409 with this coupon: http://www.gearbest.com/graphics-tablets/pp_364944.html?wid=21&lkid=10744978 . That’s much less expensive that $1,799 Wacom Cintiq 22HD and $2,300 Wacom Cintiq 27QHD. The Ugee competes with similar products from other Chinese companies— the Huion GT-220, XP-Pen Artist22 and Yiynova MVP22U.
